Aside from an Italian soap opera* I’m addicted to, the only videos I watch on my computer are dedicated to online learning.

From productivity to podcasting to personal development, I love expanding my horizons via online courses and workshops. And I am not alone.

The online course opportunity

According to Natalie Sisson, founder of the Launch Your Damn Course Accelerator, “Online learning will grow to $325 billion by 2025. That is triple the growth since 2015. What’s more, the online course market, according to Podia, is worth $46 billion and growing.”

This is fantastic news for those of us who want to live a location independent life and/or live abroad. Why? Creating an online course is the easiest to create a work-from-anywhere job that lets you live life on your own terms.

And how will you promote this course when you’re done building it? On your podcast, of course!  Podcasts are the best way to build your authority and influence in whatever genre of online course you choose to make. The know/like/trust factor is immediate.

The best way to make money with your podcast

Traditional sponsorship is a terrible deal for most podcasters. The most profitable way to make money through podcasting, for most people, is to promote your own products and services on your show, and what’s a better business than an online course?

When it comes to course topics, the sky's the limit. While there are a lot of online courses dedicated to helping other business owners — you’ll see a ton of courses on how to run Facebook ads or create marketing funnels — people are making money teaching everything from meditation to how to make candied apples.

But where do you get the idea for your course? How can you make sure someone will actually pay for it? How do you find customers?

How to launch your damn course

I interviewed Natalie, the Launch Your Damn Course Accelerator founder, to get answers to all those questions and more.

In addition to being an online course expert, she’s also the author of the bestselling book The Suitcase Entrepreneur and The Freedom Plan. I loved our interview so much that I ran it on both Podcasting Step by Step and the Postcard Academy

“This Accelerator is all about helping you to take action, so that at the end of the 60 days you will have researched, validated, designed, and pre-sold your damn course!”

Best platform to build your course on

The technology behind all these online courses has advanced tremendously over the years. Now, anyone can build a course regardless of their tech skills.

You have plenty of great options to choose from. I built Podcast Launch Academy on Kajabi, which I love. It’s not the cheapest option, but you can do everything under one room: email, landing pages (used to house freebies in exchange for email addresses), your actual course, membership site, and more.

*In case you’re wondering, the Italian soap I watch is Il Paradiso delle Signore — ‘The Ladies’ Paradise.’ The title comes from the elegant, fictitious 1950s/60s Milan department store where most of the story takes place. In my defense, this soap is more Dallas than Days of Our Lives, if I may use two very dated examples.

**If you sign up for Natalie’s accelerator or Kajabi using the links on this page, I’ll receive a small commission. This is a great way to support the Podcasting Step by Step podcast at no extra cost to you. I 100% recommend both of these products/services.
